The more I know about what and how my students learn, the better I can plan for instruction.

Assessments for assigning grades:

  • Class projects
  • Performance assessments
  • End of chapter or unit tests
  • Multiple choice tests or quizzes
  • Matching quizzes
  • Fill in the blank quizzes
  • Written response assessments
  • Rubrics

Assessments for planning instruction:

  • Quarterly benchmark tests
  • Mid-year checkpoint assessments
  • One on one writing conferences
  • Passing Notes- I write a question on an envelope about the lesson that was just taught.  As students pass the envelope around the room, students answer the question on a piece of paper and place it in the envelope.  Responses are later reviewed and used to plan for reteaching or extension activities.
  • 3-2-1 Feedback- After a lesson, students write 3 things they learned, 2 questions they still have about the topic, and 1 thing they enjoyed about the lesson.
  • Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down- end of lesson questioning strategy
  • KWL Charts
  • Questioning prompts- ask questions that will help to better measure student understanding
  • Writen responses to the weekly Essential Questions

Student self-assessments:

  • Writing checklists
  • KWL Charts
